A mustard reaper machine is a walk-behind harvester that cuts mature mustard (sarson) plants near the ground and lays them in a windrow to dry before threshing. Sunidhi Agrotech's SAT-R102 (5 HP petrol, crop 2–6 ft) and SAT-R101 (5 HP diesel, crop up to 10 ft) cut as low as 4 cm and clear about an acre an hour. Cutting on time is what saves mustard seed.
Mustard punishes delay more than almost any rabi crop: ripe pods split open in dry heat and scatter seed on the ground. Mustard is cut when about 75% of pods have turned colour. An owned reaper cuts in that window instead of after it.
The crop is laid down in a row rather than dragged, so dry pods stay on the plant until threshing.
