Power from the 5 HP engine reaches the axle through a differential — the same principle a car uses. Through a turn, the outside wheel has more ground to cover, so the gearbox lets it spin faster while the inside wheel slows down. The machine wheels itself around the headland on its own power instead of being dragged through by force.
Hit a wet patch or a loose bund and one wheel starts to spin? Pull the lock lever. The differential lock couples both wheels into a single driven axle, and they push together until you are back on firm ground.
The outer wheel speeds up through every turn, so the machine pivots cleanly at the headland instead of skidding and gouging the bund.
