Feed rollers draw whole green or dry fodder in against a shear plate, where 4 blades sharpened on both edges, 8 cutting edges in all, cut it at 600–800 kg an hour on a 3 HP electric motor. The cut length is adjustable, so one machine makes fine kutti for calves and a coarser cut for adult cattle and buffalo. Punjab produced 14.0 million tonnes of milk in 2023-24, sixth in India, and its 3.51 million hectares of wheat supply the straw that is cut into bhusa and kutti.
